Refurbished Laptop Project
The Covid-19 pandemic means that many local school children must learn from home more often. Unfortunately, not every home has access to suitable equipment, it is hard to do your homework on a mobile phone. That is why Totnes Rotary has launched a project providing refurbished laptops to needy families in the area.
Donated laptops are professionally and safely cleared of all previous data before being fitted with a new hard drive, operating system and, if required, battery by our volunteer specialist, Richard.
Although only just launched we have already supplied several laptops to families and voluntary organisations. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.
A teacher commented “This has made me so happy. Thank you for brightening my day with this fantastic news. It is going to make the world of difference. It is like having an early birthday present and I know they will be over the moon. This will also enable us to write a therapeutic story together.”
One young person sent a thank you card, “Thank you very much for my Laptop. Its already really helpful. I am very grateful”
We have loaned a refurbished laptop to Food in the Community which will be then be re-circulated when it is free, they said; “We're very grateful to Rotary for stretching their criteria to enable our intern to have her own dedicated laptop, for her to be able to work independently when required is a big bonus for us. We have limited funds and to have this expense met by Rotary means that we can concentrate our resources into what we do best which is to gather and distribute good quality nutritious surplus food to those who need it most.”
More laptops are needed. If you have a laptop which you no longer need, we can safely collect it, ensure that all personal data is securely removed and put it to good use. There are no restrictions as to condition but if it is under 10 years old it is more likely to be suitable for refurbishing. Contact details are shown below.
A family in need of support can also contact us and we will try to help.
There has been a great response to our plea for more computers.
If you contact us we will get back to you as soon as we can
