LAPTOPS PROJECT DELIVERS FIRST 30 COMPUTERS
We would like to thank everyone who has responded to our recent appeal for laptops, we have collected 85 donated machines so far with 22 more in the pipeline. These were urgently required, and Totnes Rotary has already provided over 30 refurbished laptops to families in the area who needed support to enable them to benefit from on-line learning during the current lockdown.
The appeal has been so successful that we now have enough laptops to cover the immediate and immediately foreseeable future needs for local schools. We regret, therefore, that we are currently unable to accept any further donations of computers.
The cost of refurbishment, so far, has been met from funds already raised by Totnes Rotary Club from events in the town including the Totnes Raft Race and the Dragon Boat Challenge. We have also been extremely fortunate to have received generous donations from several individuals and charitable organisations.
We still need to raise more money to ensure we can cover the planned immediate delivery of a further 30 to 35 machines to local families which has been requested largely by our local schools. Further funding will also enable us to continue our project and refurbish and redistribute, when required, all the computers which have kindly been donated.
The success of our project has also shown that there is likely to be an on-going need for support once the restrictions of COVID have been eased. This is to ensure that families and individuals who just fall outside the criteria for government support have somewhere to go that might be able to assist with their needs for technology.
So, we are also working on a permanent scheme, in partnership with our technical supplier, on a non- profit basis to provide suitable technology for those in need.
If you would like to support our appeal you can do so by using the Donate Tag on this website at the bottom of all screens.
Your support will be much appreciated.
